Matthew McGroarty

National Youth Cabinet President

Las Vegas native Matthew McGroarty, the 2009–10 national youth cabinet president, has been a member of Scouting since the first grade. Matthew earned his Eagle Scout Award at 14, continued to stay active in his troop, and has attained 15 Eagle Palms. He is an active and contributing member to the Las Vegas Area Council, where he has helped with and put on many council trainings, spoken at council events and dinners, and is a founding member of the council’s Venturing officers’ association and committee. He is a Vigil Honor member of his Order of the Arrow lodge.

Matthew joined Venturing the day he became eligible. Over the past six years, he has earned the Ranger, Quest, Trust, and Silver Awards, and he has been presented with the council Venturing Leadership Award by the Las Vegas Area Council and the National Venturing Leadership Award by the BSA’s Youth Development Team. Matthew has been with his council's VOA since it was founded in 2004. He served as president for nearly three years. Matthew continues to serve as a member of the council’s Venturing committee.

Outside of Scouting, Matthew is a full-time student at the University of Nevada–Las Vegas, where he is studying business and law history. After graduating, he plans to work for his master’s in business administration and his Juris Doctorate. In his spare time, Matthew enjoys reading, writing, backpacking, hiking, building models, playing one of 14 different instruments, and growing the new business he started with his brother and friends.
